FROM SMALL FLOWER TO SMALL SNACK
You can recognise Looye To Go tomatoes by the fact that they have no stalks or calyxes. We’ve already removed them for you. So convenient for on the go! But what route has the To Go tomato taken before it goes into the lovely blue pack in the shop?
SMALL SEED FOR A SPECIAL TOMATO
The journey Looye To Go tomatoes go on starts at a specialist in tomato varieties. We buy the best seeds from them for the prodcution of our Looye tomatoes. The sowing of the seeds and the raising of the young plants is done by yet another specialist. Everyone has their own skills. When the plants are 55 days old they come to Looye for our expertise: growing the tastiest cherry vine tomatoes.
A NURTURING HOME
Once the young tomato plants arrive at Looye, they are nestled into their new home: a substrate slab made of rockwool. Growing in these slabs enables us to control the irrigation even more precisely and provide the young plants with an ideal growing medium. The temperature in our greenhouses is 21°C - the perfect amount of heat for growing well.
BUMBLEBEE HEAVEN
Each vine of Honeytomatoes starts life as a beautiful bunch of yellow flowers. The flowers are enormously attractive to the bumblebees in our greenhouses. These hairy friends do very important work for us as they pollinate all the flowers. And that signals the start of the magical eight-week process in which each set of flowers is transformed into a magnificent vine of beautiful red tomatoes.

NURTURING GROWTH WITH CARE
While the tomato plants are growing at Looye, we give Mother Nature a helping hand wherever we can – every week a little more sustainably than the week before. To achieve that we use a combination of the latest technologies, plenty of care and attention and the long-standing expertise of our cultivation specialists and staff. Every week we look after each individual plant with great dedication. Everything that falls onto the ground during pruning is left there, just as it would be in nature. We’re convinced that this makes the plants healthier and stronger.
ONLY HARVESTED RED
We only harvest our tomatoes once all the fruits on the vine are red. Our cultivation staff are extremely strict about this. The tomatoes are harvested with care so as not to damage them. The harvested tomatoes then head for the next stop on their journey: the packaging facility.
TESTING FOR PERFECTION
In the packaging facility, each tomato passes through the capable hands of our packers, and we also use AI to inspect the tomatoes rigorously for shape, flavour and appearance. We also run weekly internal and external taste tests to make sure that only the very tastiest tomatoes make it into the blue To Go boxes.
